Carlos Lester Walker, 85, of Fayetteville passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 09, 2023 at 12:30pm at Herring Funeral Care & Cremations Chapel. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Bragg at 2pm.
Carlos was born the third of four children to the late Everald and Edith Walker on May 7, 1937, in Colon Republic of Panama. He graduated Colegio Abel Bravo in Panamá earning a degree in Cabinetry then joined the United States Army May 4, 1961. Following basic military training, Carlos returned to Panama to marry the love of his life, Alicia Mauricia Alexis on July 15, 1961. He served at many different duty assignments to include: Ft. Ord CA, Ft. Bragg NC, Ft. McNair VA, Ft. Benning GA, Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Grenada and Panama. After 28 years of dedicated service, he retired as a Sergeant Major on August 31st, 1989. He continued serving his country as a government service employee for the Department of Defense until late 2007. His favorite and latest job was playing Bingo with his wife, Alicia.
He had an immense passion for woodworking creating memorable pieces for his family. Carlos also shared a love for music. When not dancing, he loved playing the bongos while sitting around with his children.
Carlos is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alicia and five children: Sandra Spruill (Joseph), Belinda Jackson, Sophia Bradford (Richard), Carlos Walker Jr. (Pansy), and Mario Walker (Kimberly). He is also survived by his sisters, Diana Dixon and Patricia Brathwaite. During their 61 years of marriage their love of family continued to grow with nine grandchildren: Natasha, Jasmine, Kristopher, Alexandra, Carlos III, Richard Jr., Maya, Jalen, Dante and six great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Liam, Avery, Jaxson, Korinne, Kristopher and Jordyn.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 09, 2023 from 11:30am-12:30pm.
