On March 15, 2026, God called Edgar Peoples home. Mr. Peoples was born on November 12, 1928
in Durham, NC to Edgar and Fannie. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, After
serving he attended Fayetteville State University and earned his BS degree, He also earned a
MS, degree at Nova University, He began working at Cumberland County Schools as a teacher
and later as a principal at Swans Creek and Ashley schools, He was and active member of
John Wesley United Methodist Church where he started a youth study group for high school
students. He married the late Ernestine Caldwell. They were married until her passing in 1984.
They had one daughter Elise Peoples McGowan of Valrico, Florida. Mr. Peoples leaves behind
his daughter and son in law Houston McGowan, 2 grandchildren Danielle and ErIc McGowan of
Florida, and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Grace Curtis of Durham,
niece Venita Robinson of Durham and nephew Herbert Gray of Charlotte, NC.and many friends.
His Celebration of Life service will be held at Herring Funeral Care & Cremations Chapel on Wednesday May 6, 2026 at 12 o’clock.
