Mary E. McAllister, 83, of 730 Spyglass Drive, Fayetteville passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at her home.
She was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly representing the State's forty-third House District, including constituents in Cumberland County in 1990, serving for eighteen years. She was the first African-American woman to capture a countywide seat on the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners in 1980, serving eight years, with her last year as Chairperson. She also founded Operation Sickle Cell (now Community Health Interventions) in 1971.
Rep. McAllister was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday,August 27, 2020 at 11am at Rockfish Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Freddie McAllister and a son, Delvin McAllister of Stedman.
A viewing will be held at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville from 4-7pm.
