Richard Cartwright, Sr., 77, of 813 Hillsboro Street, Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11am at Herring Funeral Care & Cremations Chapel. Burial will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
Richard Lee Cartwright, Sr. was born in Harvest, Alabama June 29th, 1948 to the late Mozell Cartwright, Sr. (father) and Bertha Walton Cartwright (mother). At the age of two, his parents moved their family to Nashville, Tennessee. He spent the remainder of his youth in Nashville. As a young man, Richard loved to read and learn. His teachers noted how sharp he was as a pupil. He graduated with honors from Meigs High School in Nashville, Tennessee in 1967 where he excelled in science, writing, speech, theater arts, and track and field. Upon graduation, Richard enlisted in the US Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller and was passionate about his career. As a controller he touched many lives and continued to instruct even after his mandatory retirement from Federal Service. Throughout his life, he was known as a loving brother, loyal friend, respected mentor, and caring father figure to many.
Richard Sr. is preceded in death by his father Mozell Cartwright, Sr. his mother Bertha "Doll" Cartwright, his brothers Mosel Jr. and Cartha Lee Cartwright.
Richard Sr. leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughter Jinger Burton (Cartwright) of Houston, TX; his son Richard Jr. of Dickinson, ND; his daughter-in-law Rebekah Cartwright of Dickinson, ND; his sister Delores Young of Nashville, TN; His Uncle and Aunt Edward Lee Walter and Helen L. Walter of Huntsville, AL; eight grandchildren Gabriel A. Cartwright, Rachel E. Cartwright, Caleb B. L. Cartwright, Michael I. Cartwright, Noah E. Cartwright, Jeremiah B. Cartwright, Mary R. Cartwright, and Jonathan D. Cartwright, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
