Jeremiah Bogertey, Jr., 89, of 3348 Jura Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in Philadelphia, Pa.

Born September 26, 1927 he was one of the 6 children born to Jeremiah Elwood Bogerty Sr. and Rebecca Hudson Bogerty.

He was raised and educated inAtlantic City, New Jersey’s school system.  At a young age he met and married his first wife, Beulah Vinson.  That union produced two children.  He later met and married his second wife, Constance Edmunds.  From that union there were three children. He is a Veteran, having joined the United States Army and serving most of his time at Fort Dix, New Jerseywhere he worked as a cook.  He eventually became skilled as a butcher.  Always quite a handyman his interest transitioned to the field of construction work.  Once he honed his craft he moved to Philadelphia, PA and was able to move up the ranks to become a foreman and then site supervisor.  Being proud of his accomplishment he earned the opportunity to be a life-long card carrying member of the Laborers District Council of Philadelphia and the Laborers International Union of North America.  Both Organizations represented his life of working in the field of construction work.  Upon retiring from construction work he entertained himself by delivering the daily and weekend editions of the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Beulah Mae Vinson Bogerty, his second wife, Constance Ann Edmunds Bogertey, his sisters,Bernice Bogerty Hamilton and Martha “Babe” Bogerty Brown, his brothers Raymond Bogerty and Stanley Bogertey, as well as his daughter, Patricia Bogerty Betheaand his sons, ArnoldE. Bogerty,Sr. and MatthewJ. Bogerteyand his grandson, Robert Bethea.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Bernadette Bogertey (Jimmy Harvey) of Fayetteville, NC, his son Jerome Bogerty (Glendora) of Philadelphia, PA, daughters-in-law Robin Bogerty of Atlantic City, NJ and Blondell Sommers Bogertey of Newark, DE, Sisters in law, Phyllis Brown of Los Angeles, CA, Evelyn Pickron of Philadelphia, PA, and Carol Reddy of Philadelphia, PA as well as his Aunt Julia Bogerty of Philadelphia, PA.
