Floyd Lee Shorter, Jr. 73, of 6438 Touchtone Drive, Fayetteville, NC died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 02, 2016 at 11am at Simon Temple AME Zion Church in Fayetteville. Burial will follow in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mr. Shorter was the director of the Fayetteville Business Center , was president of the Fayetteville Business and Professional League, which was established in 1967 and led the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee,

Mr. Shorter was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and in 2007, he was lauded as Volunteer of the Year by the former Cumberland County Business Council.

He is survived by his daughters, Dr. Lia D. Shorter and Dr. Melanie Shorter-Cooper. Two grandchildren, Fallon Sanae Cooper and Farrah Melan Cooper.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 01, 2016 from 4-6pm at Bethel AME Zion Church in Spring Lake with the family receiving friends from 5-6pm.
