Dr. Shorter was such an inspiring and devoted family man, Christian, instructor, leader, and friend. I will always remember the harmony and love that was so apparent between he and Dr. Saundra -- their marriage was the epitome of life to the full.

Although Dr. Shorter was a very powerful man, he genuinely cared about people. He wanted to know how things were going, and would provide encouragement to "stick with it, because things will get better." Such wisdom and compassion will be truly missed.

To the Shorter Family,
Your father and grandfather’s vision of life was truly remarkable. He was indeed an inspiration to us all. He is a great loss to all the people who know him at Fayetteville State University (FSU) and this community. As a co-worker at FSU, he really cared for and about the students. Not just as a faculty or staff member, but genuinely cared for them as a person. Helping where he could. FSU will never be the same. When I think of FSU, he and Mrs. Dr. Shorter will always come to my mind. The two are together now in spirit. Even as a man of Kappa Alpha Psi, he displaced what true brotherhood is all about to this Omega man. May his soul rest in peace, and for his children and grandchildren- May you find comfort through the love of God. David and Theresa Camps (Omega Psi Phi)

TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE FLOYD LEE SHORTER JR.:
FLOYD WAS A CHILDHOOD FRIEND. WE GREW UP TOGETHER. I LEFT HOME IN 1960. I DON,T KNOW WHEN HE LEFT. HOWEVER, LIFE BROUGHT US BACK TOGETHER AGAIN IN 2008 AT THE FIRST AFRICAN BAPTIST CHURCH AT A FUNERAL SERVICE AFTER BEING AWAY 48 YEARS.. A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH INFORMED ME THAT FLOYD WAS PRESENT. WE MET AGAIN AND TALKED ABOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS. HE HAS VISITED WITH THE CHURCH MANY TIMES SINCE.
HIS INFECTIOUS SMILE AND WARM SPIRIT WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS. HE GAVE US FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO HELP WITH THE NEW RENOVATION OF OUR HOUSE OF WORSHIP. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU ALL. MAY HIS LEGACY OF MISSION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONTINUE TO LIVE IN FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES WORLD WIDE. IT IS MY PRAYER THAT YOU WILL BE COMFORTED THROUGH GOD'S WORD, THE LOVE OF YOUR FATHER, THE LEGACY HE LEFT, ALL THE GOOD MEMORIES THAT YOU HAVE OF HIM AND THE PRAYERS AND GOOD WISHES OF FAMILIES AND FRIENDS.

LOVE TO ALL

PASTOR RICHARD AND TINNIE HUNTER

Dr. Shorter was such an inspiring and deeply-committed family man, Christian, instructor, and leader. Although very powerful, he was never too high-minded to invest in individuals' lives by asking how things were going, and providing encouragement to "stick with it," because things will get better. Such compassion will be truly missed.
